Latin Grammy-winning Tejano singer Bobby Pulido has flipped a Republican congressional seat in Texas, defeating incumbent Monica De La Cruz on Tuesday in the 15th Congressional District. The district had been redrawn to favor Republicans in 2025 at President Donald Trump's request. Monica De La Cruz was first elected to Congress in 2022. Immigration was central to Bobby Pulido's campaign. He argued that securing the border should not come at the expense of families or the local economy. He also campaigned on strengthening the economy, supporting farmers and ranchers, opposing school vouchers and improving water infrastructure in the Rio Grande Valley, where the district begins. Born in Edinburg and known for his hit song "Desvelado," Bobby Pulido studied political science at St. Mary's University before building his career in Tejano music. Bobby Pulido launched his solo career in the 1990s. He earned two Latin Grammy Awards for Best Tejano Album, winning in 2022 and again in 2025.
